Q: Can you adjust a jellyfish? This is a very good question from a patient. The answer is no! No, because a jellyfish does not have a spine, therefore it is called an invertebrate. A subluxation can occur only if there is a spine to subluxate. We could adjust snakes, monkeys, rabbits, dogs, cats, iguanas, rats, and so on...although I would rather adjust people.
Q: Does Degenerative Disc Disease cause back pain in older people?Possibly, but not necessarily. When thinking of the answer to this question, it is important to first understand the purpose of "pain". Pain is an indicator that there is something wrong. Pain is a symptom that is brought on to tell you to make a change. What you have been doing is not working, it is time for a change in your life. We should all be thankful for pain, as it warns us to make a change. Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)is a condition that can cause pain, but not always. It is a form of arthritis that affects approximately 9% of children without causing low back pain at all! So therefore, DDD does not just affect older people, and it does not have to cause pain! So what do we do about it? Well, subluxations cause your spine to not function properly. Adjustments improve the nervous system and help the spine work properly, therefore preventing degeneneration in the spine.
Q: How Early Should Children Be Adjusted? It’s never too soon to have your children adjusted. Subluxations can occur at any time. The first one may very well have occurred at your baby’s birth. That is why parents who understand the importance of being subluxation-free have their newborns examined by their chiropractor as soon after birth as possible. By correcting subluxations at an early age, the damage that inevitably comes from functioning at less than optimal levels can be prevented. The longer a subluxation is present, the greater the damage. In addition, the longer a subluxation is present, the longer your child’s body will continue to “reproduce itself” (i.e., grow) in the wrong way! "As the twig is bent, so grows the tree!" Many people who come into a chiropractor’s office for the first time as adults would have had far greater potential for regaining their health if they had received regular chiropractic care as children.
Q: Is the Chiroprator actually putting the bone back into place?Your Chiropractor is not really "putting the bone back into place". The adjustment is unlocking the jammed vertebra and nearby tissues from their stuck or fixated positions which frees them to move where the body wants them to go. Only the body knows exactly where the vertebra needs to be. The Chiropractor can, however, make a reasonable determination of the general direction using anaysis tools: motion palpation, study of th electrical quality of the muscles (S-EMG), imaging tools such as X-Ray and other spinal analysis instruments.
Q: What Causes Subluxations?Subluxations are caused by 3 major stresses: Physical, Psychological, and Biochemical. Examples of physical stress include falls, accidents, the birth process, or anything that alters the biomechanics of the spine. Psychological stress includes any daily stress that you deal with, whether it be at home or at work. Biochemical stresses include anything put into your body that is not good for you, including the air you breathe, the food you eat, alcohol, tobacco, or medications. These three categories are responsible for causing subluxations throughout your lifetime. This is why we recommend Lifetime Chiropractic to everyone who wishes to be as healthy as possible!
Q: What Is A Chiropractic Adjustment?A spinal adjustment is a highly specialized procedure your doctor of Chiropractic uses to free your body from a serious form of health-destroying stress called the vertebral subluxation complex (or subluxation). It takes years of training for your Chiropractor to master the techniques needed to locate and correct your subluxations.
Q: Why do I have to come in for the rest of my life? This is a great question. The truth is that you do not have to come in for the rest of your life, although many people choose to. At what point in your life would you like to have pressure on your nervous system? Your nervous system controls the function of every cell tissue and organ in your body. I can not honestly think of any time in my life that I would like pressure on the very thing that sustains and controls my every function.
